The Van Fire Department covers approximately 150 square miles of primaryFire pumper discharging deck gun response area, with mutual aid to over 350 square miles. They provide fire suppression, rescue and fire prevention activities.

Van is serviced by an all-volunteer Department with 80% of the funding provided through the City of Van, 13% by contract service to Smith County ESD #2, and 7% funding provided by Van Zandt County. Apparatus includes two FERRARA custom engines, one Kenworth 2,000 gallon water tender, two F-550 4x4 Brush Trucks, one F-750 4x4 booster, and a F-350 crew cab rescue/manpower unit.
